The Central Park Summerstage lineup has just been announced! This year–the festival’s 30th–you can expect over 300 performers to grace the stage. Here are a few that I’m personally looking forward to:
On June 6th from 2 to 7 pm, check out the Blue Note Jazz Festival with Meshell Ndegeocello, trumpeter Roy Hargrove and singer, composer, multi-instrumentalist Gabriel Garzón-Montano.
The stage will play host to 90s rappers Biz Markie and Masta Ace on June 17th.
On July 5th, the Classical Theatre of Harlem will present William Shakespeare’s The Tempest.
And on July 14th, you can jam to 70’s R&B with The Chi-Lites, then get down with George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic the next night.
Fans of New Orleans rhythm and blues will love seeing Dr. John and the Night Trippers on August 1st.
As you can see, there’s something for everyone, including performances geared at children and The Big Quiet, a group meditation session. And, as always, the Metropolitan Opera Summer Recital Series, in which your opera stars perform their favorite arias and duets.
Most of the shows at NYC Summerstage are free (save some big-name benefit events), and admission is on a first-come, first-served basis. There will be food and beer and wine trucks–no dirty water dogs here–courtesy of Brooklyn Flea. The show goes on rain or shine.
