School might’ve already started and summer might be ending, but Washington Square Park still has a lot to offer this September. Get the most out of Washington Square Park and the end of summer by making plans to attend one of these special park events.
Washington Square Park Folk Festival
The folk festival will be held on September 10th from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. This event is free and open to all. The annual festival is in its 7th year. This year there are 4 different acts lined up with a special opening performance and as always, make sure you wear your dancing shoes because the event ends with a giant square dance in the middle of Washington Square Park.
Dances for a Variable Population: Washington Square Dances 2017
Dances for a Variable Population’s annual performance will be held on September the 16th from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the park. Another free event on this list, there’s no reason not to stop by and catch the performance. Not to mention, there is a slew of special guests such as Ramona Candy and Rita Carrington.
Taste of the Village 2017
Taste of the Village is in its 15th year and will be held on September 19th from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tickets are $60 and VIP tickets are $125, all the proceeds benefit Washington Square Park. This annual event features over 30 local food and drinks vendors, including our own North Square Restaurant! Food tastings will be accompanied by music by Park musicians.
Wildlife Conservation Film Festival Presents Saving Jamaica Bay
A screening of ‘Saving Jamaica Bay’ will be put on by the Wildlife Conservation Film Festival September 27 starting at 7 p.m. The film is about the fight to and the cleanup of Jamaica Bay after Hurricane Sandy.
The screening will be followed by the chance to meet the filmmaker, Dan Hendrick. The event is free and you can bring your own blankets and snacks to sit in the park.
