There’s nothing quite like a proper pour of Guinness from a quaint Irish establishment, especially in the spring (though really, anytime it can be appreciated). With St. Patrick’s Day just around the corner, one of your favorite Greenwich Village hotels has come up with a list of some of the finest Irish pubs in our area. Whether you’re Irish or just in the spirit of the leprechaun, take a second to enjoy the atmosphere of an Irish pub. The list we’ve come up with has some atmospheres we think you won’t mind enjoying all year ‘round!

Hudson Hound 575 Hudson St, New York, NY 10014

A true gem in Greenwich Village, Hudson Hound has taken the time to select the perfect brew options for its customers, ranging from small local New York State breweries to a classic pour of Guinness (they say the best on the East Coast – you can be the judge of that!), as well as other Irish brews to experience. The atmosphere is that of a clean modern Irish pub, including a toasty fireplace for when it’s damp and cold out. You’ll find creams, greens, brick, and wood as you’re walking throughout the pub. We mentioned that they have a fireplace for the damp days, but they also have a nice outdoor sidewalk set-up for the warmer months. Inside or outside. Local or Irish—It seems like Hudson Hound has it set up so that you just can’t lose. [caption id="attachment_15387" align="alignnone" width="684"]Trionas Triona's Facebook Page[/caption]

Triona’s 237 Sullivan St, New York, NY 10012

Triona’s on Sullivan, right across from Washington Square Park, is an Irish pub and sports bar. The place is quaint, to say the least. When you walk in you’ll find a rich wooden bar, wooden stools, and brick walls scattered with a couple of signs. In the back of the bar, you’ll find some entertainment like pool and darts--the classic good stuff. Triona’s keeps the draft selection simple and traditional, but without a doubt, you’ll find Guinness on tap—and what goes better with Guinness than an exciting match of your favorite sport on the big screen? The Four-Faced Liar 165 West 4th Street, New York, NY 10014

The Four-Faced Liar is a convenient meeting place in the Village and attracts many Irish ex-pats and Village locals. The pub is an updated Irish pub, still holding all the cozy nooks and warm décor with a tin ceiling and warm lighting you might find in a traditional Irish pub. However, it lacks some of the Irish paraphernalia, making the pub fit into its Manhattan surroundings a little more. The drink selection goes beyond a 20 oz. pint of Guinness—you’ll find fine whiskeys, cocktails, other beers on tap and in the bottle, as well as Irish coffee and teas. With your drink in hand, you can watch your favorite sports match on the television, enjoy an eclectic music selection, or maybe even catch a poetry reading.

Dorian Grey 205 E 4th St, New York, NY 10009

As you might have guessed from the name, Dorian Grey is an Irish pub laced with literary themes. With the tagline “Simple, cheery, and charming” you can’t go too wrong. As far as drink selection goes, you’ll find Guinness on tap and Magner’s Original Irish Cider, accompanied by some other staples and a Dorian Amber and Lager option. Wooden chairs and booths line the bar, which is up against white brick walls filled with black and white photos of literary masters. The layout is nothing short of the warmest and welcoming. O’Hanlons Bar 349 E 14th St, New York, NY 10003

Would it be any surprise that this pub also includes a beer selection for everyone, classic entertainment, big screens for your favorite sports match, and a cozy environment? If you’ve read this far, it shouldn’t be! O’Hanlons offers 16 beers on draught ranging from craft to international and includes a lovely Guinness. You’ll find 12 big screen TVs (there’s no arguing what to put on here), high-end pool tables, and classic darts. With warm lights lining the entire ceiling and dark wooden furniture and flooring, O’Hanlons might have one of the coziest ambiances on our list. St. Dymphnas 118 St Marks Pl, New York, NY 10009

The girl for which this pub was named has quite the story – and the site of her death is said to have magical powers for healing the mentally ill. We’re not sure if that lore is true, but we do know that a pint of the good stuff at St. Dymphnas might be able to cure that bone-tired feeling you get after a long day. Inside, you’ll find a couple different Irish alcohol selections, as well as others from all over the world. The pleasant environment boasts golden walls, warm lighting, and classic wooden floors, bars, and seating. You’ll also find traditional Irish meals here like a full Irish Breakfast, Shepherd’s Pie, or Bangers and Mash, if you’re feeling a little (read: very) hungry. 17 Breweries & Wineries Native to New York City -- Download the free ebook now!
