This is one of our favorite holiday events for kids and adults alike. The Holiday Train Show at the New York Botanical Garden runs through January 15th. Model trains chug along nearly a half-mile of tracks, whizzing by scaled down models of such famous New York City landmarks as the Brooklyn Bridge, the Statue of Liberty and Rockefeller Center. New this year? A gleaming Empire State Building, the Chrysler Building, the General Electric Building, and the historic St. Bartholomew’s Church. The creators really do an incredible job at bringing our beautiful city to life in a pint-sized way, so it’s worth everyone’s while to check it out.
Along with the trains, there will be lots of special events that the kiddos will love. Thomas the Tank Engine and all his friends will pull into the station, and the little ones can join Thomas on a fun-filled, sing-along performance–Thomas’ Budding Aventures–where kids will help the friendly choo-choo discover how to grow a beautiful garden.
There will be movies! Look for screenings of Shrek the Halls, Ice Age: A Mammoth Christmas, Kung Fu Panda Holiday, Merry Madagascar, Shrek the Halls and How to Train Your Dragon: Gift of the Night Fury.
Or how about highlights from The Nutcracker, a 30-minute program featuring highlights from Tchaikovsky’s masterpiece performed by the Connecticut Ballet? Or classes on creating the perfect holiday wreath or centerpiece?
You can ditch the kids for Bar Car Nights, held exclusively fo adults 21 and over. Check out the Holiday Train Show after dark with a cocktail on hand, then relax around a fire pit, or sing along to your favorite tunes in the Pine Tree Café.
Tickets range from $10 to $35. (Littles ones under two are free.) The powers that be strongly suggest that people order early, as the show tends to sell out quickly. Click here for full information on the happenings.
