It’s that time of year again. SummerStage is back.
This City Parks Foundation series celebrates its 33rd anniversary this season. Every genre of music you can remotely think of will be represented. Jazz, hip-hop, indie-rock, classical, jazz…you name it almost every day of the summer. While the Central Park SummerStage shows are the most well-known, concerts take place at parks and outdoor spaces throughout all five boroughs.
Yes, they are free. No, you don’t need a ticket (except for special benefit shows).
Liam Gallagher and Richard Ashcroft kick off the season on May 16th in Central Park. Raheem DeVaughn performs on June 28th. Trey Anastasio of Phish fame brings his trio on July 6th. EMPD and D.J. Sylk will turn it up on July 8th. Ginuwine, the Spanish Harlem Orchestra, salsa star Tito Nieves, Jason Mraz, Angelique Kidjo, Gregory Porter….all of them will be in attendance this season. All that and you can top it off with the Charlie Parker Jazz Festival.
And as always, there will be the Metropolitan Opera Summer Recital Series in which rising stars perform favorite opera arias and duets. (If you want to dip your toes into opera waters, this is the way to do it.)
