Is there anything more fun than spending an afternoon at some of New York’s finest museums? Well, one thing that makes it even better is when it’s free! This is the fortieth year of the Museum Mile Festival, when galleries along Fifth Avenue between 82nd and 105 Streets open their doors for the public to enjoy their collections for free! Nada dinero! Gratuit! Kostenlos!
It’s really a cool way to spend an evening and ends up being something of a mile-long block party that includes New Yorkers and tourists alike. So what museums are participating? El Museo de Barrio, Museum of the City of New York, The Jewish Museum, Cooper Hewitt National Design Museum, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum (whose iconic design is pictured in the featured photo) and, of course, the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
The event takes place next Tuesday, the 12th, from 6 to 9 p.m., rain or shine!
