We’re in the mood for a good flick, and we want to see it outdoors. Oh–and we want it to be free, thankyouverymuch. (Yeah, we admit it. We’re hard to please.) Here are our options for this weekend:
TONIGHT (JULY 27TH)
Coco – Animated film about a boy who journeys into the Land of the Dead to seek forgiveness from his ancestors and lift a curse. (Flushing Meadows Corona Park, Queens and WNYC Transmitter Park, Brooklyn) Screening is at 8:00 in both parks.
Haute Cuisine – Hortense, a renowned chef from Perigord, is astonished when the President of France appoints her as his personal cook at the Elyseé Palace. Note: We’d definitely bring a picnic to this one. You’re going to get hungry. (Pier 1 in Riverside Park South, Manhattan), 8:30.
The Princess Bride – A classic! No explanation needed. (Fort Tryon Park, Manhattan), 8:30.
Pitch Perfect 2 – Get your acapella on. (Wolf’s Pond Park, Staten Island), 8:30.
A Wrinkle in Time – A science fantasy aventure film starring Oprah, Reese Witherspoon, Zach Galifianakis and other people we love. (Merriam Playground, Bronx), 8:30.
Leap – Animated film about best friends who hatch a plan to escape from their rural orphanage in 29th-century France. (Concrete Plant Park, Bronx), 8:30.
Happy Feet Two – Who doesn’t love penguins? (Faber Park, Staten Island), 8:30.
King Arthur: Legend of the Sword – An Arthurian fantasy! (Msg. McGolrick Park, Brooklyn), 8:45.
SATURDAY (JULY 28TH)
Star Wars: The Last Jedi – The second installment of the Star Wars sequel trilogy. (Three venues: Rockaway Beach, Queens, Van Cortlandt Park, Bronx and Franklin D. Roosevelt Boardwalk and Beach, Staten Island), 8:30.
Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets – An English-language French 3D space opera film! Who knew? (Frederick Douglass Playground, Manhattan), 8:30.
Justice League – Calling all Superheroes! (Broadway and Wayne Street in CPL. Thompson Park, Staten Island), 8:30.
The Incredibles – Our favorite crime fighters! (Marine Park, Brooklyn), 8:30.
SUNDAY (JULY 29TH)
The Little Mermaid – Bring your favorite little girl to watch the adventures of Ariel. (Rockaway Beach, Queens), 8:00.
Zootopia – An animated film that details the unlikely partnership between a rabbit police officer and a red fox con artist. (Shore Park and Parkway, Brooklyn), 8:45.
As you can see, these films are family-friendly. And have we mentioned that they’re free? A great way to entertain the kiddos while on vacation. And if you’re not here this weekend? You can count on films running in our parks all throughout the summer!
