Don’t you sometimes wish you were still a kid? Well, the folks that organized Come Out & Play feel the same way. They’ve organized a festival of street games that turns our beautiful city into a giant playground. They call it, “a festival celebrating ‘Big Games’ in urban environments.”
So they take elements of childhood play, maybe a scavenger hunt or a board game, and transform them to an urban environment. Think Zombie Tag, or a life-sized Pong. Sounds cool, right?
On Friday, July 21st, After Dark Games will take place in DUMBO at the Manhattan Bridge Archway Plaza, just across from 155 Water St. (a quick jaunt on the F train) from 7 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. The organizers promise a slate of social party games, large physical video games, and wild new street games.
The next day, Governor’s Island will play host to an Adult Sports Day and Family Sports day. Family Day (11 a.m. to 4 p.m.) will focus on the little ones aged 6 to 11, (but involves everyone) where they will check in at the official Time Travel Agency for a full story about time travel. The adult games also run from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will include the unusual sports that Come Out & Play is known for.
