Today is one of our favorite holidays. It’s not a religious one–or even a historical one for that matter. It’s oh-so-much better. National Grilled Cheese Day!
We’ve selected a few of the best sandwiches in town that our fellow cheese nuts will be sure to gobble up:
Try any of the $6 mixed small-batch cheese varieties at Beecher’s Handmade Cheese in the Flatiron District.
The truffled grill cheese with goat gouda, fontina and a salad of mushrooms, arugula and taro root ($14) at Rye House in Chelsea is to die for.
Uptown, Harlem Public serves up a mean loaded grilled cheese topped with bacon, guacamole, and Doritos (Doritos!) on sourdough bread. ($12)
Beauty & Essex in the East Village mixes it up with grilled cheese, smoked bacon and tomato soup dumplings. ($17)
And for the love of everything holy and cave-aged do not miss the fried chicken grilled cheese at one of Melt Shop’s four locations. Pepper jack, red cabbage slaw, special sauce and, yes, fried chicken on sourdough bread. ($8.96)
Enjoy this special holiday, everyone!
