Presented by the NYC Parks Department and the Olympic Regional Development Authority (ORDA), Winter Jam NYC is a free annual winter sports festival that encourages New Yorkers to get out and enjoy the outdoors in the colder months. Activities include cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and animal tracking.

Ice Festival at Belvedere Castle
Join the Central Park Conservancy for a glacial ice adventure! Sip on hot chocolate while watching Okamoto Studio carve Belvedere Castle and its surrounding landscape from ice. Take tours with the Urban Park Rangers and learn how ice shaped the Park’s geologic features. Kids can try their artistic skills with a play-dough sculpting arts & craft.

New York City Ballet: Balanchine
The winter season begins with an all-Balanchine program of Serenade, Mozartiana, and Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto No. 2. Balanchine’s one-act revision of Swan Lake returns to the repertory this week as well, along with the choreographer’s Tchaikovsky Suite No. 3 and Allegro Brillante.

East Village gastropub Jimmy’s No. 43 hosts a competition in which amateur and professional cooks will compete to make the best French beans and meat casserole. Proceeds benefit Greenmarket’s farmers-aid programs upstate.
