We are HOT today in the city. Temps are sky-high, and humidity makes it even worse. And when it’s this muggy, we reach for the nearest beer. That’s why we’re excited for Beers With(out) Beards Week, a six-day festival with nine events featuring female brewers. Yes, our sisters can ferment hops and malt just as well as any man can (and do it backwards and in high heels to boot). The organizers are calling it the world’s largest celebration of women in the beer industry.
So we’re on board. There will be panels, tap takeovers and beer dinners through Sunday (August 12th), showcasing the wares of over twenty of the best female-run breweries in the country.
The biggest event will be the Beers With(out) Beards Festival at The Well in Brooklyn on Saturday at noon through 4 pm. Tickets are $50; designated driver tickets are $20. For your 50 bucks, you’ll receive a limited-edition taster and a brochure that includes a map of the festival. Designated drivers of course can’t drink, but they can get a complimentary festival t-shirt for their troubles. (Sounds kind of boring to us. Take the subway so everyone can drink!) VIP tickets get you an extra hour of chugging.
Breweries include the 21st Amendment Brewery, the Ale Apothecary, Black Project Spontaneous & Wild Ales, Drake’s Brewing Company and Stone Brewing. Again, all of these producers are helmed by our sisters in suds, and they’ll be on hand to personally pour you a tasted and answer any questions.
It should go without saying that you must be 21 to attend. And yes, there will be food available for purchase so no need to drink on an empty stomach!
Head here for more info on the festival, to check out other events taking place this week and to purchase tickets.
One more thing: there’s even going to be beer and yoga. Together. At the same time.
