Barefoot in the Park

Well, maybe you’ll be barefoot or maybe you won’t for these classes, but health and serenity are absolutely on the curriculum for these free, yes free classes right next door in the Washington Square Park all summer long.

On Tuesday mornings, between 8:30 and 9:30 am, head across the street for some Tai Chi. This martial art was created in the 19th century in Beijing, China and is a gentle, non-impact exercise that will benefit your mind as well as your body. Your balance, flexibility, strength, and coordination will all be improved after just an hour of this practice.

There’s also a Movement class designed for adults and perfect for seniors. Basically, it’s just dancing, and who doesn’t like dancing? But the program is designed to help promote strong and creative movement,  These take place every Tuesday between 9:30 and 10:30 a.m.

Finally, on Wednesday and Thursday mornings between 8:30 and 9:30 am head to the park for Yoga with Sacred Sounds Yoga, a local studio here in the Village. Breathing, movement, and stretching is a great way to start your day, isn’t it? If you decide to join in, remember to BYOM (Bring Your Own Mat).

Garibaldi Plaza is the site for all these classes. After sweating and stretching, walk over to North Square for some breakfast,  because, well, you’ve earned it. And if anything can promote well-being, we believe that Chef Yoel Cruz’s pumpkin pecan pancakes can!
